Robin Wilson
Robin Wilson lectures in violin,
chamber music and pedagogy at the Australian Institute of Music where
he also teaches in the YAIMS programme. He lectures the Post-Graduate
Violin Pedagogy courses at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and is
also on the faculty of the Victorian College of the Arts, University of
Melbourne. Robin holds Bachelor and Masters Degrees in performance and
pedagogy from the Australian Institute of Music studying with Alice
Waten, where he also worked as her assistant for several years. He has
also studied at The New England Conservatory of Music the US with James
Buswell, and worked privately with Felix Andrievsky and David Takeno in
London and continues private study with Janet Davies in Sydney. For the
past two years Robin has spent time at the Yehudi Menuhin School in
England observing renowned teacher Natasha Boyarsky.
Robin is highly active as a
performer. His first solo disc Melodie with pianist Kemp English, was
released with Universal Music Australia on Decca to critical acclaim.
Both Melodie and his second solo disc Soirée Musicale, recently
released in NZ with Ode Records have featured in the top 10 on the New
Zealand classical music charts. A further recording of Schubert’s
complete violin sonatas is planned for 2008.
Robin is broadcast frequently on ABC
Classic FM and the 2MBS-FM network in Australia and Concert FM in NZ.
He performs regularly in Sydney, has given numerous recitals and tours
throughout Australasia, is Concertmaster of the ARCO Chamber Orchestra,
a principal violin of the Flametree Ensemble and plays with the Sydney
Symphony Orchestra and the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra.
